I heaved a sigh – at the last – station – THE 14TH: Jesus is buried….
From the beginning of the way of the cross till that moment, one thing is sure: it is not a fable, it really happened and we cannot just wish it a way or do any hush talk about it.
My knee then was aching and my heart filled with so much: why this and why that? Why can’t we let the Cross be? Yes…Why can’t we separate the cross from our story of faith?
Well, the recurrent genuflections notwithstanding, I remember calvary again and wondering how the neccessary disobedience of our first parents has led us to needing a Saviour -A full grown man at that!
I moved out a bit to get some fresh air noticing how empty the Holy water fonts that dot the Church entrances here and there within this worship house were; the Crucifixes and other Holy images have been wrapped up in anticipation of a Glorious Sunday!
A faith in ACTION.
Alas, how void and inconsequential our world would have been; how void we were until the Lamb was marched to Golgoltha: the TRIDUUM IS HERE!
For over 25 years now, I have witnessed the Church celebrations occuring the 3 days –
Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday – called THE TRIDUUM – before the Easter Sunday and I get new meaning each year.
Affirmatively the Triduum puts the Christ passion and death in the perspective of the Resurrection.
Retrospectively (and initially) at a younger age, it was no less than a stage play of a kind hearted man killed by his jealous friends while we re – enacted the moments jokingly and dramatically; but now it is the story of a SAVIOUR killed by His LOVE for me!
Mind what you teach your children from infancy therefore, it follows then to the grave.
To put the reflections of Jesus sufferings and His expensive death away from the memory of a Christian in the name of JESUS has died ONCE and FOR ALL is to attempt to water down the POWER and MESSAGE of the RESSURECTION.
It is dangerous to the soul. Hence when you read:
These words of the scriptures should not leave your lips…..Do you remember?
Of it you shall meditate day and night…..(Joshua 1:8)
So we haven’t done enough sef: day and night meditation…wow.
And tell these to all your children and your children’s children. But how do you tell a story without describing and vividly at that?
What do we teach our children nowadays?
That there is a Risen Christ with no Cross or Crucifixion, that there is no failures anywhere but only successes and you wonder why undergraduates commit suicides at the slightest let down…Brethren:
That is not the original Gospel!
Yes Jesus died ONCE and for ALL over 2000 years ago, yet we cannot stop talking about it because
NO ONE HAS DONE WHAT CHRIST DID: SAVING THE VERY HUMANITY WHO BELIEVE!
Therefore, next time anyone approaches you to give up the Triduum celebrations and wait for the Easter Sunday, tell the person:
YOUR EASTER IS INCONCLUSIVE o!
Unless a soul reflects on these Redemptive works of Christ on His way to Golgotha and His waiting in the darkest Tomb, then the soul can be said to celebrate a fabulous story that leaves only the lips without a heart.
For to confess is by mouth, to BELIEVE IS BY HEART! You believe your meditations and the very acts you always watch and soliloquize about.
Hence, if we will talk about sin, then there must a saviour;
And if there was a saviour, then, there must be a CROSS: THE VERY REASON OF THE RESSURRECTION!
Yes, there cannot be a Christmas really then without this TRIDUUM…
So you see why the TRIDUUM IS A NECCESARY DOOM FOR OUR SPIRITUAL BOOM – BOOM – BOOM!
HAVE A HAPPY HOLY SATURDAY FOLKS AND A JOYFUL WAITING EASTER!
